Book Description

It is nine years later from the adventure and suspense of Rhys and Skye Wielde's lives detailed in Deception's Guard. During those adventures, she was a DEA undercover agent helping Memphis CEO Rhys Wielde bring to justice certain members of his research team whom had created and trafficked a deadly biological weapon. Their adventures involved miscommunications, deceptions, murder, betrayal, and misunderstandings and took them through Peru, Ecuador, Tennessee, Colorado, and Mississippi.

In the end, all was set right, and when Skye found herself pregnant she could hardly resist Rhys's proposal to make their undercover marriage a reality.

For nine years she has devoted her life to Rhys, her three children, her college professorship and her Air Transport business. She has remained in the DEA as an as-needed consultant on Latin American issues.

Nine years later she informs her husband that she has been assigned to a mission as the pilot in transporting DEA agents to Buenos Aries. When pressed, she confesses that their three-year old son may be the target of a Latin American drug cartel's retaliation against them for foiling their operation nine years earlier. Rhys agrees with her involvement in the mission, only to promise her that he will find her if she does not return in a week.

She does not return in a week and Rhys sets off for Argentina. In the interim, he is prepared for the mission by Skye's mentor and the DEA Chief of Special Operations, Gabe Kinski. Gabe has disturbing news that Skye's research has been ongoing for 3.5 years and involves an experimental cut of narcotics on the Tristan Alaridc, a cargo ship captained by Lobo (wolf). It can't be a coincidence that their son's name is Tristan Alaric, nicknamed Wolf. There are suspicions that Skye may have gone rogue and now Rhys must fight an enemy on two fronts in finding his wife and discovering the truth.

His undercover role in Buenos Aries is that of an embassy aide. In that capacity, he is privy to a host of rumors and info and through his contact in the city he finds an imprisoned Skye. Disguised as a doctor, he treats a near insane and brutalized woman who is indeed his wife. Finally, during an attempted rape by her captors, he rescues her and allows her to heal and complete her mission. Next, she goes undercover as an embassy courier to find more pieces to the puzzle of her mission.

During her investigation, her husband becomes more convinced that all the DEA suspicions of disloyalties are proving true, especially when she blatantly confesses to using their son as bait for drug lords in accomplishing her mission.

Their trail leads them to the southernmost city in Argentina, Ushuaia. There she flies to the Antarctic Research station to discover the scientists who have collaborated with the Argentine drug lords to create the more potent narcotic.

Her roles here range from whore to a young Argentine man as she searches for the ship and its cargo.

Rhys becomes more distraught at the mounting evidence against her and begins to consider divorcing her for the protection of the children. One night, he follows her in her nocturnal roaming to a dock warehouse where he witnesses her discovery of narcotics cargo and nuclear materials. She calls in a military team first who confiscates the nuclear materials. After their departure, she calls in the DEA for the narcotics. Rhys is convinced she is a traitor, liar, thief and mercenary. They return to America and Skye is met with a reprimand, DEA-monitored probation, a ruined career reputation, the distrust of her children, and her husband's increasing disdain.

She suggests a trip to Washington, D.C. to which Rhys grudgingly agrees. While there, Skye engineers a clandestine meeting with a New York Senator, the Director of Homeland Security, and the Secretary of Defense at which the men covertly explain to Rhys the intentions of terrorists to nuclear attack the U.S. from Latin American soil and Skye's role and sworn secrecy in preventing it. She was on an undercover mission for three and a half years in which she could tell no one lest DEA leaks and her family tip off the terrorists.

Since the planning took place during her pregnancy it was decided to use the pregnancy, and the child to snare the DEA's attention to send Skye on the Buenos Aries and Antarctica mission in which she thwarted the terrorist efforts and prevented the distribution of a deadly strain of narcotics - two missions in one.

Skye must bear the brunt of apparent insubordination and ruin for the DEA narcotics operations as there can never be proof of a thwarted nuclear mission. Rhys finally understands and their marriage is stronger for finally realizing the sacrifice of his wife's heroism.
