The protagonist of the Deception series is biracial DEA agent Skye Mathews who is a pilot and an actress with a facility for languages who is capable of great viciousness in pursuit of justice. Her exploits have taken her from Peru to Antarctica. This third novel in the four book series finds her leaping back into action in a history based suspense thriller set in Spain: past and future.

Combining three intersecting time lines, the focus of Deception's Legacy is Andaluc¡a, Spain where multiple religions lived in relative peace until the bloody Spanish Inquisition. Centuries later the United States made an impression on the region when a fully loaded B-52 bomber collided with a KC-135 Refueler. The result was the largest nuclear cleanup operation in history. These two events intersect to create a twisted web of deceit and intrigue that Skye, now retired from the DEA, helps unravel.

Skye's son, DEA agent Tristan Alaric Wielde, is in Spain as part of a U.S.-Spanish task force working to trace and destroy an international drug trafficking ring. Part of their investigation involves infiltrating Don Cristob l's family. Tristan and one of his partners discover the Cristob ls are involved in more than drugs. They uncover a hidden dungeon where Torquemada, the grand inquisitor in the 1400s, is enshrined. He is no doubt pleased at the meticulously documented and photographed atrocities in a hidden centuries-old cell of the Spanish Inquisition that has learned from the past and makes use of modern technology.

Skye, worried about Tristan and eager to get back into the game, convinces her husband, Rhys Wielde, CEO of Genoreach Technologies, to go undercover to Spain and assist in the operation. Ensconced as Don Cristob l's distant and troublesome relative, Skye saves Tristan's life and soon discovers everything she believes about herself and her parents is a lie. Shattered by what she learns, Skye returns to the U.S. to confront her mother and ends up in Texas facing the author of the fiction she has held dear her whole life.

Armed with the truth, Skye returns to Spain, feeding information to Tristan that he shares with the joint U.S.-Spanish task force. As Tristan and his team close in on Don Cristob l, Skye, Rhys, and Skye's mother and close friend, Javier, race to a confrontation with the Cristob ls that will end power behind Spanish drug trafficking, destroy centuries of torture, and redeem generations of lies steeped in the blood of the innocent.
