As a fan of the poetic word and a student of the art, Desi Marquiso is a
dreamer and a typical college student trying to do a little searching in life,
trying do to what's right even though he finds himself continuously doing
what's wrong. This bringing up the proverbial question: Why do people do
things they know they shouldn't do? That is a question that can be answered
simply by observing Nature. The Disappearance and the Slow Awakening
encourages those whose disposition may be regarded as directionless and
inadequate to carefully observe their actions and embrace a creative side to
humanity-a side that reminds the reader of the many gifts of creative writing.
Set in San Francisco's Visitacion Valley District, as well as infesting
throughout the entire City, Desi Marquiso-the protagonist and essentially the
ardent spokesperson for the ideology of art for the sake of art-struggles
between college, work, and his failed relationship with his true love, Elena
Marie. Desi takes the reader through a fierce twenty-four hours filled with
interminable spells of poetic creation and provocatively intoxicating
mistakes-the same mistakes willing college students generally make today.
His love for poetry eventually pulls him through his poor judgements and leads
him back to the Faith on which he was raised.
The essential purpose of this novel: Show readers that everyone is a poet,
even if the person doesn't write.
