The present memoirs are comprised of neither famous or remarkable people, nor particularly original or extraordinary events. The focus is, rather, that of everyday life of an ordinary family.
The author merely weaved the lines of his characters into a pattern which, in its totality reveals the beauty of our human routine: the births, education, marriages, divorces, the celebrations, the intense mourning, the wide travels, moving from flat to flat, from continent to continent. The sequence of events is divided by this movement - from Russia to America and Israel - where past and present collides. The past spans only three generations, that being the extent of the author's reference point, yet the present is described in vivid and poignant detail.
The book offers insight into historical events that intertwined with family histories. What is extraordinary is that that no one was removed, killed, or hurt by the common tragedies that faced many millions during the fearful events of 20th century Russia. In this fact alone, as the author sets forth, it is true that this is indeed a unique and singularly fortunate family.
