Sky: "One Step Beyond Socrates...".. Buy Now!

Sky

Sky

Sky is a fascinating young woman who has been writing even before she began elementary. When asked what influenced her love for the art of words she was quoted as saying, "I don't know really. As far back as I can remember I've just done it naturally. Even in second grade I had a story published in the school newspaper. I actually express myself better through writing than through verbal communication. My mom practically had to bribe me to come out of my room on weekends because all I ever wanted to do was let my imagination run free across the paper." she replied with a smile. "I don't think my parents knew quite what to do with me. I wrote anything from stories, to journals, to poetry. I got a few poems published after college, my family had been bugging me to do it for years but it was never quite good enough ya know? I suppose it is as they say we are our own worst critic. I began to delve into philosophy when I lived with my Dad. He would patiently talk to me about all kinds of concepts for hours. He's a busy man though, and a single one at that so he doesn't always have the time to talk. I actually started my Myspace page to have the same types of conversations with other people out there. At first there wasn't much of a response then I began adding people based on their name. I figured if their display name was something like: knowledge, Socrates, Aristotle, Plato and so on then they'd probably have the same interests. It just kinda grew from there. I started putting out bulletins and blogs on the different concepts and theories running through my head that day. Soon I had some nice debates going back and forth between everyone. Now it's hard to keep up lol! People liked it so much that I eventually started thinking perhaps I should write some of my concepts and thoughts down in a book so that people not on Myspace can read it. One step beyond Socrates will be the first in a series of philosophy books each one getting more and more complicated in ideas and concepts. It's funny to me because my family and friends view the philosophy stuff as no big deal. They've become so used to my random personality that I could probably turn water purple and they'd just pat my head and say 'that's nice dear'. You can imagine my surprise when the outside world had a whole different reaction. There are a lot of people that join and send me messages saying I've thought about this for years but I never had anyone to talk to about it! They're all praise and compliments. I do get some hate mail from people. Most of them are damning me because I'm questioning things even in the religious world. *Shrug* I think it's more a matter that they are afraid to think beyond what they 'know'. Some people just can't handle it. I just let it roll off me like water off a duck's back. (one of her mother's favorite sayings)." I asked her what plans she had for the future to which she replied, "Well I'll be going back to my little university in Oklahoma, University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma to study computer science. I figure it's a great way to meet the boys!" She said laughing, "Well that and I really want to have a job where I can work from home and set my own hours that way I can continue writing on the side. Currently Oklahoma is my favorite place to live, they have flat land that stretches literally as far as the eye can see and the best storms! When the sky lights up and you can hear the wind whipping the rain and/or hail all around you just know there's no other place you'd rather be. Of course Texans would probably shoot me for that statement *chuckle* especially since I grew up there. I have two brothers one 10 years younger and one 18 months younger both living in Texas so I try to visit when I can. I tried to convince my bro. closest to my age that when he graduated he should come up to Oklahoma but he wouldn't dream of it. He actually became an Aggie instead much to my dismay. My father shakes his head sometimes his oldest is into philosophy and writing, his middle child is military gung ho and the youngest has yet to show his wings yet. I think he hoped at least one of us would grow up and go into the medical field. I try to tell him there's one more but from the looks of my littlest bro. he'll probably pursue acting or hacking. He seems to have a lot of potential for both much to his mother's dismay." I then prompted her to tell me what she thought people should know about her when reading her author bio. "I don't know," she replied, "People do seem a little shocked when they meet me on the street. They're shocked that I'm only 23 years of age probably the most common question is why I'm not out living it up with the rest of my age groups in the bars. I tell them I've been there bought the t-shirt and burned it! *lol* I guess it's just not what interests me though it does make it a bit harder to find a date *wink* That's pretty much it though everything else I guess they'll have to find out by reading the book." After conversing with this young lady I'd have to say that she is truly the Socrates of our time. I found her ideas and ways of thinking a breath of fresh air in our society. I would definitely encourage anyone out there to check out her book for despite her young looks and shy demeanor there's a mind behind it like no other I've encountered.
